Green roofs (also called living roofs) can improve our environment, reduce our carbon footprint and promote energy conservation,
and according to the RSPB
"Green roofs benefit wildlife and ease the load on drainage systems by reducing water run-off. They provide additional insulation
and prolong the life of the roof by protecting its surface from the elements."
Although green and living roofing usually refers to buildings located above ground, they
also include planted roofs on partially or wholly underground structures, such as basements or garages built into hillsides.
Green roofs give excellent heat conservation properties to buildings. Good insulation plays an important
part of any green roof structure, helping make buildings warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
